Free backing assemblies incorporates a “fall-away” shoe which diminishes shoe drag when backing up. Requires periodic manual adjustment. Marine cluster has galvanized back plate, stainless steel spring hardware, plated wheel cylinder and riveted marine brake shoe. Free-backing brakes let your trailer move in reverse without the brakes being activated by your surge actuator. These brakes are needed if your actuator does not have a reverse lockout, which is a mechanism that ensures that the actuator does not activate when your rig moves in reverse

To determine the size of the brake, you need 2 measurements. The first is the diameter of the brake(D). The second is the width of the shoe(W). It is good to take note of how many mounting bolts the brake has.
